Biography

Matt Gilbert has enjoyed working with his voice as long as he can remember.

Growing up in a small community he spent his youngest years doing imitations of Star Wars characters in class, and playing with accents while doing skits with his friends.

While studying at Trent University, he began acting on stage. His obsession with performance has taken him to over 90 productions in the Peterborough over the last 20 years.

During that time he has continued to practice his vocal instrument using accent, inflection and tone to help create complex characterizations. He soon garnered a moniker of “the voice” amongst his friends and colleagues. At first he resented the term, but came to take great pride in both the name and his voice.

In the last decade Matt has been exploring voice-over work, doing advertising copy for agencies in Peterborough and voice over work for theatrical productions.

In 2010 he had the opportunity to work with the talented Elley-Ray Hennessey. Herself acclaimed both on stage and behind a microphone, she saw something in Matt, and with patient persistence has worked with him over the last two years to explore and refine his vocal range.

Now armed with the knowledge he has gained from two decades of performance and a life of experimenting with his voice he is looking towards an exciting new chapter of doing vocal work for commercials, cartoons, video games, animated shorts, and features.
